University of Melbourne Student Precinct
The New Student Precinct is a landmark project for the University of Melbourne. The masterplan sought to re-establish connections between the campus, city, outdoors and social connections between students. Delivered through an intensely collaborative process, Lyons lead 6 design firms through the 5 year project. Accessibility, inclusion and cultural acknowledgement of history were woven into the planning.
We were the custodians of ground plane activation across 4 buildings. 24 hospitality tenancies were designed as key activators for the precinct, with adjacent breakout and study spaces supporting the student population. The project was cared for by many hands, intricately layering the masterplan ideas, base build architecture, landscaping and ground plane activation together, ultimately creating a new sense of community for the University.
The collaborating team are Lyons, Koning Eizenberg Architecture, NMBW Architecture Studio, Greenaway + Greenshoot, Aspect Studios and Glas Urban.
